Walton Lumley Obituary

Walton Ottie Lumley, age 87, passed away on April 15, 2024, in Louisville, Georgia.

He was born on March 19, 1937, in Soperton, Georgia, to the late Ottie Walton Lumley and Sallie Lee Rawlins Lumley. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Tifton, Tommy, Bill, Raymond, and James Lumley, and his sister, Lena Thigpen Kennedy.

He is survived by his children, Paula (Wally) Tanner, Melinda (Rob) Phillips, Louis (Brenda) Lumley, and Diane (Jody) Brooks; his sisters, Annie Davies and Lillie "Shorty" Lumley; his grandchildren, Brandon (Jessica) Tanner, Jacob Stuckey, Hannah Stuckey, Colby (Katie) Blount, and Kristen (Corey) Wren, as well as his great-grandchildren, Sloane Joann Tanner, Piper Quinn Tanner, and Walker Mae Tanner. He also leaves behind his step-children, Steve Thomas, Toni Herndon, Stan Thomas, and Tonya Thomas.

Walton honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, a period that shaped his character and instilled in him a sense of duty that he carried throughout his life. After his military service, he built a career at Forstmann, where he retired as a fabricator and shop mechanic. He also spent a number of years working in Norway on an oil rig for Brown and Root Industrial Services. His work was not just a job but a testament to his talent and dedication to his craft.

Walton enjoyed dirt track racing and NASCAR, which brought excitement and joy to his life. He was also a fan of Westerns, especially Gunsmoke, The Rifleman, and Laramie. Walton's love for welding, fabricating, and working with his hands was evident in everything he touched. He took great pride in his cows, his tractors, and his ability to fix anything that came his way—a true testament to his resourcefulness. Walton's life was a portrait of the word "handy."
