Benny Screws, age 85 of East Dublin, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2018.
Mr. Screws was born in Johnson County May 4, 1933, to the late Gaynor and Myrtle Screws. He was a United States Air Force Veteran and later retired from Robins Air Force Base as a Quality Assurance Specialist after 32 years of dedicated Civil Service. He was known for his beautiful gardens and for his expert fish frying skills. He loved to travel with Ronelda and the Grandchildren. He was a faithful member of Jefferson St. Baptist Church for many years and enjoyed his service to God. He was a devoted husband, and a loving father, grandfather, and brother. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Cleo Screws, Grady Screws and Herschel Screws.
Survivors include his wife, Ronelda Cartwright Screws; son, B. Howard Screws (Melinda) of St. Augustine, FL; daughter, Celia Covington (Greg), of Dublin; grandchildren, Adam Covington (Betsy), of Charleston, SC; Ben Screws, of Macon, GA, and Rachel Covington of Atlanta; great-grandchildren, Parker and Finnley Covington of Charleston, SC; sisters, Viola Bustos and Dorothy Whited, both of Atlanta, Glenda Gilleland (Phil) of Gainesville, GA, and Rosa Brown of Dublin, and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be: Adam Covington, Ben Screws, David Brown, Paul Batchelor, Roy DeLoach, and Steve Screws.
Services will be held at 2:00PM on Friday, July 13, 2018, in the Chapel of Jefferson St. Baptist Church. A private burial will follow in Dublin Memorial Gardens. Rev. Larry Rowland will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1:00PM until the funeral hour at the church on Friday.
