Dwight Webb Smith, age 83, of Dudley, passed away on Sunday, September 23, 2018, at the Navicent Health Medical Center in Macon.
Mr. Smith, a graduate of Dublin High School Class of 1953, began his career working at the Dublin Courier Herald. He served and retired from the U.S. Army National Guard and the United States Postal Service. He also worked for many years with C&H Bus Lines in Macon, GA. After retirement, he worked at the Laurens County Court House as a security officer and also served on the Dudley City Council. He was a member of Poplar Springs North Baptist Church and liked to go R.V. camping with his friends and family. Mr. Smith was an avid fisherman who enjoyed spending time with his Dudley Men’s Coffee Group.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Nina Mae Webb Smith; brother, Emory Howard Smith, son Gregory W. Simmons, and grandson, Kameron A. Gaddis.
Survivors include his wife, Romel T. Smith, of Dudley; sons, Randy Smith (Melanie), of Gray and Terry Simmons (Tim), of Ooltewah, TN; daughters, Lisa Bell (Mark), of Rockledge and Dawn Gaddis (Bob), of Dudley; grandchildren, Todd W. Smith, Megan Quinn, Benjamin Heath-Simmons, Shira Simmons, Cody Simmons, Kristen Gaddis, and Ashley Marconi (Paul), sister in law, Bunny Bracewell Smith and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Services will begin at 2:15 p.m. in the Chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home on Tuesday. Burial will follow in Dublin Memorial Gardens. Rev. Jay Moore and Rev. Cecil Clegg will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Bob Gaddis, Tim Heath, Todd Smith, Cal Saunders, Billy McAfee, and Mark Bell. Honorary pallbearers will be Yates Ware, Jerry Pitts, Glenn Allen, Albin Watson, Foster Goff, Joel Cauley, and Emmett Bozeman.
