Edward Sims

Edward Sims, age 80, of Dublin, passed away on August 26, 2019, surrounded by his wife and caregivers.

Mr. Sims was born in Brookfield, Georgia on December 14, 1938 to the late Ernest Hayes and Minnie Bell Sims.  He graduated from Tifton High School and attended Berry College in Rome, Georgia, where he met his future wife, the former Benita Hall of Dublin, GA.  They married in 1959 and recently celebrated their 59^th wedding anniversary.  Ed served in the Military Police Corps in the United States Army for two years while stationed at Fort Gordon, GA, and Killeen, Texas. A Laurens County resident for over 27 years, Ed was a member of Jefferson Street Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon and a member of the choir.  Ed earned his aviation license and piloted senior executives from Ashland Oil, Inc. across the globe as Chief Pilot and Manager of Flight Operations, retiring after 26 years of dedicated service.  After retirement, he moved to Dublin and began flying for Evans Cabinets for 15 years.  Ed loved the Lord, and enjoyed attending Gospel performances throughout Georgia with his wife and friends.  Ed enjoyed flying, woodworking, boating, and was an active supporter of Georgia forestry and wildlife management.  A loving father and grandfather, Ed’s big heart and wonderful smile will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Benita Hall Sims of Dublin; son, Stephen Sims of Locust Grove and daughter, Lynn Sims Hughes (Eric) of Watkinsville; grandchildren, Avery Hughes and Tate Hughes of Watkinsville, and Olivia Sims of Atlanta; brothers, Lowell Sims (Peggy) of Mableton, Larry Sims of Senoia, and sister, Rosemary Sims Tyson (Ted) of Auburn, Alabama.

The family will receive friends on August 28, 2019 from 12:30 to 1:30pm at Jefferson Street Baptist Church, 209 N Jefferson Street, Dublin GA 31021.  Services for Mr. Sims will be held at 1:30pm on August 28, 2019 at Jefferson Street Baptist Church.  Graveside services will follow at the 150 year old Hall Cemetery of Laurens County.  Reverend Darren Talley will officiate, with a special prayer by Pastor Kyle Giddens.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Jefferson Street Baptist Church at 201 N Jefferson Street, Dublin GA 31021; the Alzheimer’s Association; or Integrity Hospice at 1101 Hillcrest Parkway, Dublin GA 31021.
