G. W. Darsey

Mr. G. W. Darsey, age 77, of Dexter passed away Monday, December 31, 2018.

Mr. Darsey was a member of Buckhorn United Methodist Church and the Dexter Lodge # 340 F&AM for over 50 years.  He was very active in helping the Masonic Children’s Home. G. W. was a retired Supervisor at JP Stevens/ Forstmann with over 30 years of service and was a farmer.  He treasured his trips to Washington D. C. for Presidential BBQs and other political suppers he helped with.

Mr. Darsey was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin Darsey and Emmie Smith Darsey, his loving wife of 38 years, June Darsey, and daughter, Julie Ann Beard Acree.

Survivors include his children, Janis Turner of Dublin, Jay (Debbie) Reese of Rockledge, Joey Beard of East Dublin, Joanette (Joey) Savage of Dexter, Jenny Hobbs of East Dublin, Donna (Danny) Smith of Dexter, Michael (Wanda) Beard of Opelika, AL, Christine (David) Barron of Silver Hills, AL, sisters; Doris (Gene) Braswell of Dexter, Carolyn (Billy) Burney of Dexter, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home on Thursday, January 3, 2019 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, and may be contacted at the home of Joanette Savage, 2210 Wall Road, Dexter. 

Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 4, 2019 at Buckhorn United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Jared Middleton and Rev. Michael Beard will officiate.

Danny Whittle, Johnny Pittman, Delwin Clements, Spence Bryant, Anthony Hamby, and Dennis Waldrep will serve as pallbearers. Masons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
