George Franks, age 89, of East Dublin, passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.
Born February 22, 1930, to the late Chancy and Bessie Franks, weighing 2lbs., his mother placed him in a shoebox by a fire to keep warm. He had eight brothers and sisters, one of which included his twin sister, Georgia. He was born and raised in Dublin, Georgia where he attended Lovett and Johnson Street Schools. He joined the U.S. Army in 1946, receiving a World War II Victory Medal. He also attended Keesler Field in Mississippi and Kelly Field in Texas for training, obtaining certification in the area of Toxic Gas Handling and Automotive Equipment Operations. After serving his Country, he returned home to Dublin, GA. At the age of 22, he married his lifelong sweetheart of 67 years, Elouise Crumley Franks, of Dodge County.
At an early age he began building houses, and as his building career took off, so did his family. George and Elouise had three sons, Steve, Gary, and Kenny. George was well-known and loved throughout the community for his craftsmanship, building hundreds of houses in the Middle Georgia area throughout his lifetime.
George was an avid Braves and Bulldog fan. He loved to fish, bird hunt, and enjoyed spending time with his family. He worked hard well into his 80‘s until he began to slow down and enjoy the smaller things in life, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Those who knew George were not surprised to find him at his favorite coffee shop every afternoon. He was known for his generosity and tall tales. He loved life, loved to laugh, and loved his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sibling, Eunice Franks, Cecil B. Franks, Jay Franks, Marie Franks, Opal Minton, Euree Franks, Georgia Bolton, and Evelyn Rozier.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Elouise Crumley Franks, of East Dublin; sons, Steve Franks (Becky), of Dublin, Gary Franks (Karen), of Madison, AL, and Kenny Franks (Jill “PW”), of East Dublin; grandchildren, Kelly Hohenstern (Chris), Kacey Franks (Candace), George Nathan Franks, Gabby Giles (Alan), Mallory Miller (Larry), and Andrea Riley (Troy); 10 great- grandchildren; sister-in-law, Grace Franks, and several nieces and nephews.
