Grace Pettis Obituary
Grace Edwards Pettis, age 92, of Dublin passed away at home on Tuesday, April 24, 2018.
Services for Mrs. Pettis will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Charity Baptist Church with burial to follow in New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Jim Fennell and Rev. Lee Edward Pettis will officiate. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 28, 2018 from 1:00PM until funeral hour at the church.
The youngest of 8 children, at age 16, Grace was in the second class to graduate from Dexter High School with her brother Buford. She married the love of her life in 1951 and had 4 children in 3 states by 1956. The family lived in three additional states before returning to the Edwards family home place here in 1967. Following Lee’s death in 1968, she raised 4 teens of her own, plus countless others she called her own.
Grace retired for the third time in 2010 and was called “Amazing Grace” by those who knew and loved her. She was blessed to live independently in the home she was born in and to enter her eternal home surrounded by family in that same home.
In addition to her husband, Linza E. “Lee” Pettis, Grace was preceded in death by her parents; Howard Franklin Edwards and Mary Effie Edwards, and great grandson, Charles Lee “Scooter” Gaddis Jr.
Survivors include her daughter; Becky Wood (Bill) of Dublin; sons, Rev. Lee E. Pettis (Pam) of Dublin, Jeff Pettis (Marianne) of Salisbury, MD, James A. “Jim” Pettis of Dexter; step-son Jerry Pettis (Dianne) of Columbus; sister Mary Helen Schwartz of Savannah; 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive, as well as devoted K-9 companion Lucy.
Mrs. Pettis’ grandsons will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to ABC Women’s Clinic, P.O. Box 1927, Dublin, GA 31040 or to Charity Baptist Church, 599 Valambrosia Road, Dublin, GA 31021.
