Richard Herschel Lovett passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Lovett was born in Laurens County on August 6, 1954 to the late William Ervin Lovett, Sr. and the late Janelle Griffin Lovett. He was president of Lovett Insurance Agency and Chairman of the Board of Directors, Bank of Wrightsville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Retha Warnock Lovett.
Survivors include his daughters, Melissa Lovett Cowart (Mark), of Cadwell, and Roxie Lovett, of Drummond, MT; son, Richard Herschel Lovett II, of Savannah; grandchildren, Anna Cowart, Cate Cowart, and Cambree Clark; sister, Anne Lovett Sullivan (Joe), of Atlanta; brothers, Billy Lovett (Dianne), of Atlanta and Griffin Lovett (Dianne), of Dublin; beloved best friend, Janet Parker, of Wrightsville, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Lovett graduated from Dublin High School in 1972. He attended the University of Georgia was a member of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity.
He was known by his magnetic, larger-than-life personality, infectious laugh and mischievous grin. A man of quick wit and captivating story telling abilities, Lovett loved to laugh as much as he loved making other people laugh.
Lovett enjoyed spending time outdoors at the family camp house in Wrightsville and could often be found fishing. Nothing made him happier than watching a Braves game or watching the Georgia Bulldogs with family and friends. He was adored by his family, friends and all who knew him.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 12, 2019 from 7:00PM until 9:00PM at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home.
Services will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 3:30PM in the Chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery in Wrightsville.
Pallbearers will be Will Lovett, Steve Gibson, Jay Gleaton, Ben Lovett, Bob Lovett, Mark Cowart, Matthew Martin, and Matt Clark. Honorary pallbearers will be the Board of Directors of the Bank of Wrightsville, Sherry Mathis and Jeremy McCorkle.
