James Anderson Hawkins

James Anderson “Jim” Hawkins, Sr. age 80, of Dublin, passed away on Saturday, July 28, 2018.

Mr. Hawkins was born on February 2, 1938 in Rutherford, N.C. to the late Paul S. Hawkins and the late Mary Emma Smith Hawkins. He married Bobbie Putnam on May 10, 1955 at the home of her parents; Mr. and Mrs. D.W. Putnam in Spindale, N.C.  Jim served in the United States Army in Germany and upon returning to the states, began work in the carpet industry – working his way up from sweeper to management. He retired from Mohawk Industries and later from Amoco/BP. He was an avid golfer who was a member of the Dublin Country Club, prior member of the Dalton Country Club, and member of the Council on Aging Senior Center. He was a devoted husband, and loving father, grandfather and brother.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Samuel Hawkins and Jetonne Hawkins and a sister, Hazel Williams.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Bobbie Putnam Hawkins, of Dublin; son, James Hawkins Jr. (Cheri), of Dublin; daughter, Kim Wilson (Tommy), of Ocilla; grandchildren, Brandi Wilson, of Washington State, Erin Franks (Justin), of Jesup, T.J. Wilson (Lindsey), of Ocilla, and Trey Hawkins, of Atlanta; great-grandchildren, Tom Wilson, Max Wilson, Celi Wilson, Emma Wilson, Blair Franks, and Easton Wilson; sister, Martha McGinnis, of Jacksonville, FL; brother, Carter Hawkins (Maryalice), of Pensacola, FL, and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2:00PM on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 in the Chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Burial will be held privately. Dr. Cliff Morris will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 1:00PM until funeral hour on Wednesday at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be T.J. Wilson, Trey Hawkins, Justin Franks, Tom Wilson, Max Wilson, and Virgil Brantley. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Scarboro, Billy Beacham, Larry Williams, Harold Powell and Danny Martuscello.

The family will be at the home of James and Cheri Hawkins.
