Services for Juanita Silas, 85, of Dublin, will be held at 3:00PM, on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Dublin Church of God. Burial will follow at Bluewater Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. William Pope and Rev. Steve Hardeman will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2:00PM until funeral hour on Sunday at the church.
Mrs. Silas was a lifelong resident of Laurens County. She was the daughter of the late Emmitt Mitchell Colter and the late Annie Jane Fordham Colter. She was a member of the Dublin Church of God, where she was a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary for 25 years and the organist until health problems caused her to step down. She enjoyed gardening and grew daylilies for many years. She loved the tour of gardens each summer and her garden was often on tour. Mrs. Silas passed away on Friday, January 12, 2018.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-eight years, Marion Henry Silas; son, Randy Silas; sisters, Pauline Graham, Aline Golden, Audrey Brantley, and Dorothy Bracewell; and brother, Edward Colter.
She is survived by her brother, Charles Colter, of Pawleys Island, S.C.; twin sister, Ouida Colter Coleman, of Dublin; sister-in-law, Louise Colter, of Dublin; several nieces and nephews, including Patricia Hood (Mike), of Rentz, and Hilda Hummel (Buster), of Dublin. Although she had no grandchildren of her own, she was a cherished grandmother to Paul Churchwell of Dublin and Sheila See of Milledgeville. She was also a devoted “MeMe” to Kasey, Tiffany, and Courtney Churchwell, and Maleah Gordon, all of Dublin and Austin, Grayson and Holden See of Milledgeville.
Joey Williams, Freddie Churchwell, Kyle Williams, Larry Golden, Buster Hummell and Mike Hood will serve as pallbearers. Billy Roberts, Bobby Willis, Ray Curry, and the men of the Dublin Church of God will serve as honorary pallbearers.
