Mary Jane West

Mary Jane West, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, May 8, 2018.

Services will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, May 11, 2018 in the Chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends from on Friday from 10:00AM until funeral hour at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home.

Mary Jane was born in Blakely Georgia, to Walter and Stella West, the last of 11 children.  All preceded her in death.   Her father was a barber, and her mother cared for them at home.   The family moved to Albany, where she graduated from Albany High School.  She then got her degree as an RN and worked at several doctor’s offices, Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, and the VA Hospital in Dublin until she retired.  She never married or had children, but she was a mother to many nieces, nephews and friends. Her life work was to love and care for others, and she never stopped.  She had a strong loving heart for people and all God’s creatures, and nursed many in need back to health.  She cared for many in their final days, in particular her beloved sister Joyce West.
