Services for Roger Wayne Lord, Sr., age 80 of Dexter, will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 23, 2019, at Dexter Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Dublin Memorial Gardens. Rev. Calvin Holcomb will officiate. The family will receive friends at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home, Tuesday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
Jason Gay, Johnathan Cesario, Jeremy Lord, Jared Cesario, Jacob Lord and Nate Cesario will serve as pallbearers. Al Barron, Bo Jones, Carl Burnett, Grady Carr, Johnny Ray Stuckey, Sammy Payne, Ed Warren, John Williams, Wayne McDaniel, Hugh Collins, Don Ray Christian, John Knight, D.W. Knight and Jimmy Holland will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Lord was a lifelong resident of Laurens County and was the son of the late Julian and Latha Pope Lord. He was a member of Dexter Baptist Church. Roger was a Class of 1956 graduate of Dexter High School and was a member of the Dexter Hornets Basketball Team. He served in the Georgia National Guard. Mr. Lord was owner of Lord’s Sausage.
Mr. Lord was active in the community, serving on the Laurens County Board of Education and was its chairman. He also served as President of Progressive Rural Telephone Board. He was a beloved brother, son, father, grandfather and boss who had a generous heart for all.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Sharon Lord of Dexter, children; Wayne (Tammie) Lord, Jill (Jerry) Hatcher, Tracy Cesario, Britt (Nedia) Lord all of Dexter, siblings; Philip (Renny) Lord, T. J. “Tom” Lord, Cynthia (Randel) Bryan all of Dexter, Sandra (Freddie) Alexander of Lilburn, grandchildren; Callan (Jon) Morris, Hope (Josh) Carter, Laura (Jared) Parsons, Caitlin Hatcher, Jason (Ashley) Gay, Johnathan Cesario, Jared Cesario, Natalie Cesario, Nate Cesario, Brittany (Blake) Morgan, Jeremy (Taylor) Lord, Mindy (Jake) Hendley, Jacob Lord, and seven great grandchildren.
