Albert Kline Scarborough January 28, 1919 - November 14, 2012

Albert Kline Scarborough, Sr., 93, died Wednesday, November 14, 2012.Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, November 17, 2012 at First Baptist Church, Dublin, GA with Dr. Cliff Morris and Dr. Lamar Holley officiating. Burial will follow in Dublin Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home, Dublin. The family may also be contacted at 215 Earlwood Drive, Dublin. Mr. Scarborough was born in Laurens County, January 28, 1919, the son of the late James Marshall and Katie Robertson Scarborough. He lived in Montrose, GA, with his late wife, Seebie Strozier Scarborough, raised his family there and was active in the community and a member of the Montrose Methodist Church. In 1980 he married Mrs. Shirley Edmonston Rhiner, widow of James M. Rhiner, and moved to Dublin. Mr. Scarborough was a well known farmer throughout Laurens County, raising livestock, corn, cotton, soybeans and peanuts. He received the soil conservation award in 1960. In his younger days he was an active member of the 4-H Club, participating in the State Fairs, and played basketball for his school team. He also served on the Montrose Council for many years and was Mayor Pro-Tem at one time. At the time of his death, he was a member of First Baptist Church, Dublin, and a faithful member of the Forum Sunday School Class. He was also a World War II Army Veteran, a member of the Dublin Laurens Arts Council, the Laurens County Historical Society, and Woodmen of the World. He received a fifty year pin and was member emeritus of the Montrose Masonic Lodge #499 which later merged with the Cool Springs Lodge #185 of Danville. In addition to his parents and his first wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Aline S. Branch, Auburn, AL, and Charlie Nell Wolk, Macon, two brothers, Carlton Scarborough, Waynesville, Col. John Marshall Scarborough, and nephew Rev. James P. Branch, Atlanta. He is survived by his devoted wife of 32 years, Shirley Edmonston Scarborough, son Albert Kline (Betty) Scarborough, Jr., Dublin, two daughters Katie S. (Lewis) Wills, Asheville, NC, and Carol S. (Tommy) Roe of Montrose, grandchildren Jill S. (Michael) Bracewell of Dublin, Albert Kline (Stephanie) Scarborough III (Trey), Dacula, GA, Seebie F. (Dustin) Morris, Villa Rica, GA, Justin (Brooke) Fountain, Dublin, and Jesse Wills, Asheville, NC, and 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by step-children Karen J. Jacobs, Oviedo, FL, Ted (April) Janson and Randall (Michelle) Janson, Lake City, FL, and nephews Leslie (Jackie) Scarborough, Stone Mountain, Steve (Sandy) Scarborough, Hiawassee, and Jimmy (Kay) Scarborough, Dublin, and niece Evelyn Bond, Auburn, AL, along with a number of great nephews and nieces who loved their Uncle Kline. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Marlowe Place of The Autism Society of NC, 505 Oberlin Rd., Suite 230, Raleigh, NC 27605-1345, First Baptist Church, 405 Bellevue Ave., Dublin, GA 31021 or Serenity Hospice, 520 Hillcrest Pkwy., Dublin, GA 31021. Pallbearers: David Green, Jimmy Green, Leslie Scarborough, Steve Scarborough, Dr. James Garner, Mike McCarn, Jack Baynes. Honorary Pallbearers: Forum Sunday School Class, Dr. Steven Garner, Don Crafton, James Layton, Earl Beall, Jeff Baron, Jimmy Scarborough, Doyle Dowdy, Philip Morris, and Wallace Miller.
