Obituary

Alma Lee Manus Childers, 101 years old, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2011 at Fairview Park Hospital. Mrs. Childers, was born in Jackson County Georgia, on March 16, 1910. Mrs. Childers and her parents moved to Laurens County in 1923, where she remained a resident until her death. Mrs. Childers and her late husband, Henry Franklin Childers had eight children, five boys and three girls. Mrs. Childers was preceded in death by her Parents, Mr. Joseph Richard Manus and Mrs. Idell Bethune Manus, two Brothers, Mr. H. Walter Manus and Mr. Otis B. Manus, her Husband Henry Franklin Childers, One Daughter Myrtle Lee Childers, two Sons, Richard Daniel Childers and Harry Franklin Childers and One Grandson, Ronnie W. Mosley. She is survived by Five (5) children, Avis I. (Carroll) Alligood, Ottis E. (Betty) Childers, Alice M. Walker, Clarence B. (Pam) Childers and Arthur B. Childers. Also, she is survived by, Fourteen (14) Grand Children, Twenty Four (24) Great Grand Children, Twenty (20) Great, Great Grand Children and One (1) Great, Great, Great Grand Child. Mrs. Childers was a farmer for many years. She was also employed at Rockdale Sausage Co. for 15 years. She was one of the first women employed by Georgia/Bassett Furniture Company, where she remained for Twenty (20) years until her retirement. She was the oldest living member of New Bethel Baptist Church, where for many years she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She had a very strong belief in her Christian Faith and read her Bible daily. Pallbearers will be Mr. Gene Mosley, Mr. Frank Childers, Jr., Mr. Mitchell Childers, Mr. Richard Childers, Jr., Mr. Ricky Childers, Mr. Jeffery Childers, Mr. Richard Crosby and Mr. Patrick Childers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ms. Sianne Brown, Mrs. Stacey Roberts and Mrs. Jennifer Cristello. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 3:30PM in the Chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. In lieu of Flowers, donations are requested to be made in the Name of Alma Lee Manus Childers to the Cedar Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund c/o Paul Young, 2873 Hwy 46 Dublin, GA 31021.
