Obituary

Annett Butler Carr, age 94, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2026. She was born on September 3, 1931, in Dothan, Alabama, to Beachum Butler and Nora Lee Butler and was their only daughter.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Alton Carr; her parents, Beachum Butler and Nora Lee Butler; and her son-in-law, Thomas Tarpley, husband of her daughter Lavelle.

Growing up on a farm, Annett learned the value of hard work at an early age. That strong work ethic remained with her throughout her life. Whether working outside the home or caring for her family, she devoted herself wholeheartedly to providing for those she loved. She spent 25 years as a dedicated employee of J.P. Stevens Company before retiring.

More than anything, Annett's greatest joy and purpose in life were her family. She believed her most important responsibility was to ensure her children knew God, loved their family, and treated others with kindness and respect. One of her favorite sayings was, "To have a friend, you must be a friend." She lived those words every day through her generosity, compassion, and unwavering love for others.

Annett was a selfless and giving woman who willingly shared her time, care, and encouragement with friends, neighbors, and family. She loved her neighbors unselfishly and gave her family all she had. Her gentle spirit, steadfast faith, and unconditional love made her an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. No one could have asked for a more loving mother or a more devoted family member.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Lavelle Carr Tarpley and Joany Carr Harden (Wayne), of Dublin; her grandsons, Craig Benjamin Ayres of Dublin and Matthew Ashton Slaughter (Megan) of Dexter; her treasured great-granddaughters, Avery Grace and Emery Quinn Slaughter of Dexter; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Annett's legacy of faith, hard work, kindness, and unconditional love will continue to live on through the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
