Atys "Clay" Bowles, Jr.
September 12, 1958 – November 23, 2021
Dublin, GA – Mr. Atys "Clay" Bowles Jr. reached his home in Heaven on Tuesday, November 23 rd , 2021. Visitation services will be held on Friday, November 26 th , at 1pm at the Townsend Brothers Funeral Home in Dublin, GA. A celebration of his life will take place immediately following visitation at 2pm in the funeral home chapel with burial at Boiling Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery in East Dublin. Brother Douglas Bridges will officiate.
Following his graduation in 1978 from Dublin High School, Clay began a twenty-five year career at Forstmann, where he was a dye lab supervisor at the textile plant. After the closure of the plant, he changed careers and worked as a correctional officer for Treutlen County Prison for nine years. He faithfully attended Faith Christian Assembly Church in East Dublin and enjoyed reading the Word of God.
Clay was born in Dublin to the late Atys and Mildred Bowles, Sr. He married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Ann Warren Bowles. They were happily married for over 43 years. Together, they raised a son, Brian Bowles (Erica) of Dublin, and a daughter, Christy Brooks (Jeremy) of East Dublin. Clay was called "Papa" by seven grandchildren that loved him dearly. His grandchildren are Hayden Bowles, Addison Bowles, Chaz Brooks, Alexis Brooks, Sadah Brooks, Sam Hardy, and Elizabeth Hardy. Other survivors include his bride's parents, Oscar and Oretha Warren of East Dublin; sister, Linda Mathis (Roger) of Lake Alfred, FL; brother-in-law, Ronnie Warren (Judy) of Dublin; niece Renee Allen (Jeff) of Lake Alfred, FL, and numerous nieces, nephew, and cousins.
Clay was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Braves and Falcons play. These teams were often the topic of conversation with his friends and grandchildren. There was often a house divided in November when he, along with his sister, pulled for Georgia Tech, while the rest of the family were behind the Bulldawgs. Clay cherished his time with his grandchildren, whether it was sitting on the sidelines of a game, attending a school function, spending time together outside, or putting a puzzle together in his home. He also enjoyed playing with his much-loved dog, Lucy. Clay could almost always be found with a big smile and a laugh, wearing the colors of one of his favorite teams.
Pallbearers will include Chaz Brooks, Jeremy Brooks, Tim Knowles, Roger Mathis, Doyle Tanner, and Ricky West.
