Barbara Jean (B.J.) Nelson Achord June 26, 1938 November 18, 2010 Dublin GA--- In my Fathers house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. John 14:2 Barbara Jean (B.J.) Nelson Achord, age 72, entered into eternal rest on November 18, 2010. B.J., the daughter of Lucille Couey Nelson Bradshaw St.Johns and the late Marion Albert Nelson, was born on June 26, 1938 at Claxtons Hospital in Dublin, Georgia. Her maternal grandmother, the late Mrs. Maudie E. Couey and her beloved aunt, the late Mrs. Dorothy D. Wright, contributed to upbringing and loved her unconditionally. B.J. graduated from Dublin High School in June 1956 and attended extension classes at the St. Leo College in Tampa, Florida. On June 24, 1956 she was united in marriage to Eddie Lawton Achord, who was at that time serving with the United States Air Force. A daughter and a son were later added to their traveling team. During her 54 years of marriage, she garnered enough time to retire from Federal Civil Service. She later works for almost three years with the Georgia Department of Labor in Dublin when she resigned due to cancer. She was active in the Dublin Hemerocalis Society and the Middle Georgia Hemerocallis Society. She enjoyed growing daylilies with her husband. She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church where she held positions on many committees and offices. She was a member of the Adult II Sunday School Class. The family members left behind with hopes of seeing her again are her husband, Eddie Lawton Achord; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lajean Jeanie and Richard Arthur Rodewald of Warner Robins; son and daughter-in-law, Nathaniel Rush Rusty and Vickie Achord of Dublin; grandsons, Jonathan David Rodewald and Marshall Ryan Achord; granddaughters, Ashley Daniele McCall of Kansas City, KS, Shannon Paige Rodewald of Warner Robins, Savannah Faith Achord, and Rebecca Lynn Achord both of Dublin; great-grandsons, Christian Joshua and Carter McCall; half-sisters, Mary Ellen Nelson of Texas, Sara Nell Nelson, Janice Reip, and Brenda Nelson, all of Atlanta. Soloist will be Dewayne Jeffers who will sing B.J.s favorite hymn, How Great Thou Art. Pallbearers will be Jerry BP Griffin, William Billy Bob Holmes, Richard Andrews, Willard Bell, James Hutchenson and Chandler Edmonds. Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 21, 2010 at New Bethel Baptist Church in Dublin with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Reverend Grady Mimbs will officiate. The family will receive friends at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home on Saturday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
