Barbara Hogan McLees was born in Dudley on July 10, 1931 and died in Dublin on January 20, 2012. She was the daughter of Rubert and Gladys Hogan. Barbara moved to Greenwood, SC after her graduation from the University of Georgia in 1952 with a degree in journalism. She met and married William G. McLees in 1954. They had two sons. The family moved to Dublin in 1968.
Besides being a homemaker, Barbara was very active in the community. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Dublin for over 40 years. A former member of the Dublin Service League, she also served as president of that organization. She was a founding member of the Board of Directors for both Save-a-Life and Helping Hand, and she also served on the local boards of the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association in the 1970s. Barbara received the "Citizen of the Year" award from the Dublin Civitan Club in 1982.
Barbara is probably best known for leading Thursday morning Bible Studies in Dublin for thirty years. She also served as a Sunday School teacher since young adulthood.
For many years, Barbara served as a board member and officer of Laurens Bancshares, the holding company for the Bank of Dudley.
Barbara is survived by her husband, William G. McLees, a retired dentist, and by two sons, Bill McLees, Jr. (Jo Ellen) of Macon and Bert McLees (Carol) of Norcross. She has six granddaughters: Megan, Lauren, Anna, Lucy, and Laney McLees, and Mary Beth Smith (Ryan). Barbara is also survived by a sister, Betty Hogan Metts, of Macon, three nieces, a nephew, and beloved cousins.

Services will be held at 3 pm on Sunday, January 22, 2012 in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church, Dublin. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30pm until funeral hour. The graveside service will be private.
