Betty Jean "BJ" Smith Johnson passed away at her home with her angel by her side on Sunday, January 1, 2023 at the age of 75.

Mrs. Johnson was born December 8, 1947 in Tennille, GA to the late Billy Smith and Mary Urquhart Smith. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, served The Order of the Daughters of the King, and was a Daughter at Large. She was a graduate of Shorter College with a Master's Degree in Business and retired as a manager with AT&T. She enjoyed interior design and working with Habitat for Humanity. Mrs. Johnson was a breast cancer survivor, which pushed her to enjoy her work with Relay for Life.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Dr. James Arthur Johnson, who she supported in all aspects. She and her husband served at Christ Episcopal Church in Dublin for several years.

Survivors include her daughter, Laura Elizabeth Johnson of California; son, Jacob Nathaniel Johnson of Tennille; granddaughter, Sarah Michelle Wilburn of Hawaii; and granddaughter, Hope Anne Wilburn of France.

A service will be held Friday, January 6, 2023 at 11AM at Grace Episcopal Church in Sandersville, GA. Father Steve Clifton will officiate.
