Betty Butler Shepard, age 86, of Dublin, passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2016. Services will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, May 21, 2016 in the Chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Dublin Memorial Gardens. Rev. Al Haywood will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Mrs. Shepard was born in Laurens County to the late James Wilburn Butler and the late Tessie Ree Hammock Butler. She was a graduate of Dublin High School and resided in both the Atlanta area and Americas, GA for several years. She worked for the Federal Aviation Administration at the Marine Base in Albany, GA for many years. Mrs. Shepard had a life-long love of music and enjoyed dancing, singing and playing the piano. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John A. "Jack" Shepard; younger son, Mike Shepard; sisters, Demettress Sims and Dorothy Herron; brother, Dr. James Wilford Butler and niece, Teresa Sims. Survivors include her son, Scott Shepard of Alexandria, VA; nephews, Russell Sims of San Diego, CA and Jeff Herron of Mt. Vernon, GA; nieces, Donna Herron Marsden of Dublin, Robin Sims of Corpus Christi, TX and Cynthia Sims of Bryan, TX; four grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; six great nieces and nephews and a number of cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Serenity Hospice, 520 Hillcrest Pkwy, Dublin, GA 31021.
