Obituary

Billy Edward Scarboro, 90, passed peacefully in the early morning of June 26, 2023 with his family by his side.

Billy was born in Emanual County, Georgia on December 9, 1932 to the late John Wilton Scarboro and the late Lessie McMillan Scarboro. Billy was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he was Chief Master Sergeant after 22 years of service. He served in Texas, Saudi Arabia, Montgomery, AL, Vietnam, Cheyenne, WY, and some of his favorite places, Puerto Rico, Savannah, and Bermuda. He also served during the Vietnam conflict and in the Middle East. During Billy's USAF, he received five commendation medals with four Oak Leaf Clusters and one Bronze Star for his service. He was most proud of his Food Service Procedure Manual that was adopted by the Strategic Air Command (SAC). He retired after working 22 years with USAF.

He worked in construction sales, management, and cost estimation well into his 70s. Billy loved his retirement job at Claxton Lawrence Ford because his brother, Junior Scarboro, also worked there. Billy was an avid runner for 30 years and participated in 10K events. He was an antique bottle collector, which began in Bermuda. He loved to cook for his loved ones. He was a member of Pine Forest Methodist Church where he served for many years as an usher. He was a freemason and a member to the Savannah and Dublin Masonic Lodges.

In addition to his parents, Billy is preceded in death by his grandmother, Rosa McMillan, grandfather, Pete McMillan, and grandson, Brent Tate.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 72 years, Reta F. Scarboro of Dublin; daughters, Billie Tate (Randy) and Debbie Franks (David) both of Dublin; granddaughters, Melissa Cowart (Mark), Kara Moore (Chris), and Rachel Joiner (Bret); great-grandchildren, Anna Cowart, Cate Cowart, Shylah Moore, Ashleigh Andrews (Adam), Josh Cowart, Brandon Cowart (Paige), Millie Joiner, Tate Joiner, Jack Moore, and Ryan Moore; and brother, Junior Scarboro of Dublin.

Services will be held Thursday, June 29, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Pine Forest UMC with interment to follow at Dublin Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Rev. Kim Dixon.

Honorary pallbearers will be David Franks, Randy Tate, Billy Wicker, Hilton Joiner, Chris Moore, Mark Cowart, and Bret Joiner.
