Obituary

Bonnie Gardiner Campbell died in Dublin December 27, 2017, ending a two week bout with pneumonia following extended physical difficulties.  She was in the company of her loved ones at Serenity Hospice when she died peacefully.  Weary from her struggle, and full of the confidence in the life to come through the grace of Christ, she made known that she was at peace and wished the same peace for all who know and love her.

Bonnie was born June 11, 1930 in Atlanta, GA. She was the daughter of the late Anderson John Gardiner and the late Lois Jesse Parks Gardiner. She attended two years (1946-7) at Girls High School in Atlanta and one year at Henry W. Grady High School, where she graduated in 1948.  She attended Marsh Business School, Atlanta, for two years.  She was employed at Williams Printing Co.  and the IRS as private secretary to the regional director. During this time she attended Georgia State University. In 1954 she married Dr. Grady Campbell.  They lived in Greenville, SC for one year before returning to Atlanta for three years. In 1958 they moved to Dublin for him to practice radiology, where they have lived for 59 years.

Bonnie was dedicated to her friends and family.  She and Grady loved to travel the world with his siblings, having made several visits to the Holy Land.  She was loving and generous in the upbringing of her children and grandchildren, in the care for her parents, and in joyous visits with her brothers and their families.

She was a dedicated lifelong Baptist, having been brought up and married at Jackson Hill Baptist in Atlanta.  She loved playing piano, having served in that capacity at Trinity Baptist.

Hers was a life marked with physical pain and difficulty which contrasted with her buoyant spirit.  Through it all she has been brave and giving.  She taught us what it means that "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me".  She faced her hardships with courage, humility, dignity, humor and faith in ways that we can't begin to understand.

Most recently, she and Grady have been a part of the community at Dublin Place, where we know she will be missed.

Bonnie was survived by her "boyfriend" and husband of 63 years, Grady; son, Paul David Campbell and his wife Lorene Flanders, Mobile, AL; daughter, Chris Elaine Campbell Woodburn and her husband, David Woodburn, Dublin, GA; four grandchildren: Anderson Hart Flanders Campbell, Elizabeth Vara Love Jordan Campbell, Rebekah Love Campbell Woodburn and Benjamin Maxwell Grady Campbell Woodburn;  brother James Gardiner, Lawrenceville, GA; two sisters-in-law: Samma Campbell, widow of the late Bill Campbell of Lake City, FL and  Marguerite (Peggy) Campbell, widow of the late State Representative Dr. Roy Campbell of East Palatka, FL; 15 nieces and nephews, 29 grandnieces and grandnephews living in GA, SC and FL.  She was preceded in death byher parents and brother Donald Gardiner, Columbia, SC.
