Obituary

Burnetta (Bonnie) Kathryn Afdahl, passed away on Friday, June 23, 2017 at Dublinair Nursing Home. She was 105 years old. Born March 6, 1912 in Fairfield, Minnesota, and raised in Makoti, North Dakota, Bonnie was the seventh of eight children born to the late Michael and Anna Fischer Hoffman. She taught school in many states including, North Dakota, Washington, Montana, Illinois, Texas, and Georgia. She taught in the Dublin City School System from 1960 until 1973. Bonnie was a member of Henry Memorial Presbyterian Church and was an awesome cook. She could take a recipe, change ingredients to her liking and create a masterpiece. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by seven siblings, husband, Palmer Arness, and husband, Arthur Afdahl, to whom she was married 68 years. The family would like to thank the staff of Dubinair for the excellent care given to Bonnie during her final years. A special thank you goes to her wonderful caregivers, Bernice Burley, Mary Thomas, and Alice Walker, who looked after her in the early morning. The family loves you dearly and is thankful you were part of Bonnie's life. Also a special thank you goes to Rev. Mark George and Bob and Somai Alexander, who faithfully visited her every week. She truly loved those visits. She is survived by daughters, Karen Roche (Ed), and JoNell Lee, both of Dublin; grandchildren, Greg Roche, and Chip Roche (Marla), both of Dublin, Kelly Roche-Dukes (Jody), of Macon, and Josh Lee, of Cumming; great-grandchildren, Dori Roche Clark (Josh), and Drew Roche, both of Dublin, John Michael Lee, Joshua Lee, Grace Lee, Jackson Lee, Sarah Lee and Henry Lee, all of Cumming; great-great grandsons, Wil and Chance Sterling, both of Dublin. A graveside memorial service celebrating the life of Mrs. Afdahl, will be held at 10:00AM on Monday, June 26, 2017 in Dublin Memorial Gardens. Rev. Mark George will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made in her memory to Henry Memorial Presbyterian Church, 511 Bellevue Avenue, Dublin, GA 31021.
