Services for Carlton Krather (Carl) Nelson, Jr., age, 86, will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, December 1, 2016, at First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Northview Cemetery. Rev. Tyler Plaxico, Rev. Bob Williams, and Dr. Joel Dent will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 9:30 AM. Mr. Nelson died Monday, November 28, 2016.
Mr. Nelson was a 1948 graduate of Dublin High School, and a 1953 graduate of the University of Georgia Law School, and a U.S. Air Force Veteran. He was a member of First Methodist Church, the State Bar of Georgia for fifty-eight years, and a founding member of Kiwanis International Club in Dublin. Mr. Nelson served the Dublin community as an attorney, and was a Grand Life Master Bridge Player. He enjoyed playing bridge, golf, and hunting.
Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by his parents, Carlton Krather Nelson, Sr. and Dorothy Fordham Nelson; wife, Peggy Miller Nelson; and son, Ellis Miller Nelson.
Survivors include his children, Krather (Lynda) Nelson, of Dublin, Dotte Nelson Thacker, of Nashville, TN; daughter – in- law, Tamara Nelson, of Panama City, FL; brother-in-law, Butch (Cecile) Miller, of Dublin; grandchildren, Carlton Nelson, IV, Courtney Nelson, Cullen Nelson, William Thacker, Grace Thacker, Forrest Nelson, and Eric Diebert; and nephews, Rob (Laura) Miller, Adam (Leslie) Miller, and Nathan (Chase) Miller.
Rob Miller, Adam Miller, Nathan Miller, Ken Carswell, Mike Prosperi, Dr. David Kellam, William Thacker, and Carlton Nelson, IV, will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Nelson Carswell, Ben Cochran, Frank Hodges, Ray Battle, Billy Wynn, Jimmy Lord, Malcom Fordham, John Fordham, Stephen Fordham, and W. W. Larsen.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Mr. Nelson's loving caregivers, Deborah Joyner, Valencia Walker, Whitney Herrin, Roxanne Davis, and Jasmine Dudley, for their years of dedicated service to our family. They also ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 665, Dublin, GA 31040.
