Services for Caroline Kight White, age 67, of Dublin, will be held at 4:00 PM Friday, October 2, 2015, in the chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Dublin Memorial Gardens. Rev. Jim Fennell will officiate. The family will receive friends before the service beginning at 3:00 PM. Mrs. White died Wednesday, September 30, 2015. Mrs. White was born in Dublin on Nov. 3, 1947. She was a student at Laurens High School, where she excelled in basketball and graduated with honors in 1966. She graduated from Georgia Southern College in 1969 with a BS in Education, social sciences. Mrs. White taught World History and coached basketball in Harlem, GA from 1969 through 1970 and then taught American History in Wrightsville, GA in 1970 and 1971. Beginning in 1971, she was a Southern Baptist Missionary in Sorati, Uganda, where she taught missionary children and English to African pastors through 1973. Mrs. White graduated from Southwestern Seminary in 1975 with a Masters in Religious Education. She joined the U. S. Army Reserves and served as a clinical specialist from 1977 through 1981. She worked as a social worker for the mentally challenged in 1978. Beginning in 1979, she taught English at Fort Benning until 1981. In 1982, Mrs. White's pride and joy, Dr. Thomas Roy White was born. Mrs. White taught science, history, and reading in elementary and middle grades in Columbus for twenty-five years and retired December 2008. She then moved back to Dublin and volunteered at Fairview Park Hospital, James Place, Serenity Hospice, and United Way. Mrs. White was a member of Charity Baptist Church. Mrs. White was preceded in death by her parents, Delmar Roy Kight and Opal Dean James. Survivors include her son, Dr. Thomas Roy White, of Columbia, SC; sisters, Yvonne (Larry) Boyd, Peggy Lyles, both of Dublin; brothers, Randy Kight, of East Dublin, Hugh (Michelle) Kight, of Dexter, Kenneth (Lisa) Kight, of Dublin, Ricky (Dee) Kight, of East Dublin; numerous nieces and nephews. Donovan Kight, Michael Kight, Brandon Kight, Steven Brooks, Mark Soles, Greg Bennett, will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Joey Padgett, Bryan Jeffers, Larry Boyd, and Mary Evans.
