Obituary

Carolyn Buff Jordan Rountree Odom, age 95, of Dublin, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2015 peacefully at her home. Services will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, October 25, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Dublin. Burial will follow in Dublin Memorial Gardens. Dr. Cliff Morris will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1:00PM until funeral hour at the church. Pallbearers will be Jordan Price, Chuck Price, Nick Randle, Buddy Haggard, Charlie Garbutt and McGrath Keen, Jr. Mrs. Odom was born on January 26, 1920 in Laurens County to the late Mae Ward and Marylu Buff Jordan. She was a 1936 graduate of Dublin High School and a 1940 graduate of the Georgia State College for Women. On December 16, 1941, Carolyn married George W. Rountree. They were married for 30 years, until his death on February 17, 1972. Carolyn's first job was as a Dietician at Spence Field Officers Club from 1941 until 1943. She then went to work for the Laurens County Department of Family and Children Services from 1943 until 1945. She worked at Dublin Jr. High School before taking a teaching position at Moore Street Elementary where she was employed from 1960 until 1984. She retired from Dublin City Schools after 24 years of service. Mrs. Odom married Cleon Odom in December 1973. They were married for 30 years until his death on February 28, 2004. She was a member of the Girls Cotillion Club of 1936 and the Dublin Service League from 1949 until 1959. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, being baptized in October 1928, at 8 years old. She taught Sunday School and was involved in many areas of the church. She will always be remembered for her card ministry and how many lives she touched with her words of inspiration and encouragement. "Death is not the end for believers in Christ but rather a transition into the presence of the Lord where we will live in Heaven forever and ever." XO Left to cherish her memory is her daughter and son-in-law, Buff and Tony Price of Dublin; granddaughter and caregiver, Carol Buff Price Motes of Dublin; grandsons, Chuck (Melissa) Price of Orlando, FL, Jordan (Francesca) Price of Atlanta; granddaughter, Kathryn (Nick) Randle of Anderson, SC; great-grandchildren, Caroline Georgia-Dixon Long of Rome; Peri, Chapel, Charlie and Dixon Price all of Orlando; several nieces and nephews and four step-children. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to Serenity Hospice, 520 Hillcrest Pkwy, Dublin, GA 31021 or to the First Baptist Church Music Department, 405 Bellevue Ave., Dublin, GA 31021.
