Cecil Howard Taylor passed away on September 30, 2016 at Serenity House in Dublin, Georgia. He was ninety-two years of age. A celebration of life will be held for Mr. Taylor in the Chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home on Saturday, October 15th at 2:30 in Dublin with Reverend Kelly Maddox presiding. The family will receive visitors an hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Northview Cemetery.
Cecil Howard Taylor was born on December 23, 1923 in Electra, Texas to Charlie and Maxa (Mauldin) Taylor. He was one of six children. After graduation from Polytechnic High School in Fort Worth, Texas, Cecil worked in local retail positions before entering the military. Cecil became a navigator on a B-26 in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He flew 62 missions over Germany out of an airfield in England. He was proud, yet humble, about his service years.
Following WWII, Cecil began a 33-year long career with the Federal Aviation Administration in the southeast region where he rose to the position of Sector Manager. His tenure with the FAA included many moves around the Southeastern United States, and also included four years in the Panama, Canal Zone. Living in the Canal Zone was one of the highlights of his life.
Cecil was a member of a Baptist Church in every place he lived. He spent many years teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir. Cecil had a strong belief in charity for others which led him to contribute his time and efforts to several endeavors. He was a Freemason for over 60 years. He was also an active member of Lions Club International in every place he lived. During his years as a Lion, he held many positions, including President. Cecil was a regular contributor to the Rodeheaver Boys Ranch near Palatka, Florida and to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Cecil was very active for most of his life. He loved, tennis, swimming, billiards, and golf. He was an avid golfer, and was very proud of three "hole in ones" over his lifetime. Cecil was also a world traveler. He vacationed in numerous countries on every continent except for Antarctica.
Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, all brothers and sisters, his first wife (Blanche Windsor Taylor) and last wife (Johnnie Faye Raffield Taylor).
Cecil is survived by his four children David Taylor (Paula) of Lake Mary, Florida; Johnny Tarpley (Jennifer) of Dublin, Georgia; Wendy Spivey (Chuck) of Oakland, Arkansas; and Janet Ramsey (Patrick) of Dallas, Georgia; Twelve grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; many nieces and nephews.
