Obituary

Funeral services will be held for Charles Stephen Lord, 93, at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 23, 2012 at the family burial plot in Northview Cemetery with Dr. Jack Key officiating. Townsend Brothers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A native of Dublin, he was born May 17, 1917 to J. Hughes Lord and Bessie Lee Keen Reese, prominent Dublinites. His father died in 1936 and his mother remarried in 1939 to the late Walker S. Reese. After graduating from Dublin High School in 1936, he enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve and was called to active duty shortly before the United States entered the war following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. He served throughout World War II, spending the last two years in the South Pacific with the naval amphibious forces. After the war he attended the University of Kansas City, graduating with a degree in Economics. While living there, he was offered employment with the Coca Cola Company, and he began a 28 year career, retiring in 1980, as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. He has lived in Atlanta since 1956. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lord is preceded in death by a brother, James Brooks Lord Sr. and a step-sister, Elizabeth Reese Brinson. Survivors are his nephew, James B. Lord, Jr., and his niece, Mrs. Bettye Lord Tomlinson, great-niece, Lisa Starley of Dublin, great-great niece, Kellie Grace Starley, great-great nephew, Matt Starley and step- niece, Lynn Brinson Johnson.
