Obituary

Clara Smith Currie, 87, born September 4, 1932, went home to her eternal reward Wednesday evening, April 15, 2020. Clara was a treasured wife, loving mother and a friend to so many. She was the oldest of four daughters to her parents, Roy Smith and Leila Muns Smith. Clara married David James Currie, June 27, 1953, who after 37 years of marriage preceded her in death in 1990, along with her grandson, Andrew "Drew" Glenn Currie (2010). Clara lived in Dublin, Georgia for her lifetime and was a faithful member of the Olivet Baptist Church.

Clara was the first born of a set of twins and is survived by her twin sister, Claire Wilkes (Larry-deceased), of Dublin, along with a sister, Joyce Brack (Elbert-deceased) of Bonaire, Ga. She was also preceded in death by her younger sister, Betty Jean Minter (Milton) of East Dublin, Ga. Clara was blessed with many treasured nieces, nephews, and extended family, whom she loved as her own. Her life was filled with family, friends and laughter, even in the challenging days. Her name, "Clara", means "clear" or "bright" and she illumined the lives of all she touched.

Mrs. Currie is survived by her daughter Tammie Hodnett of Birmingham, Alabama and grandson, Devon Hodnett, (Lindsey), along with a great grandson, Brooks Hodnett, 4, of Augusta, Georgia. She is also survived by her son, David J. Currie, Jr., (Janice), and grandson David Walker, of Las Vegas, Nevada.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude for each of your thoughts, prayers and acts of kindness across the years. They have asked that anyone wishing to make a memorial donation please consider gifts to Olivet Baptist Church, Gideons International, American Leukemia Foundation, or Samaritan's Purse.

Clara Smith Currie was laid to rest beside her husband, David James Currie, in Dublin Memorial Gardens on Sunday, April 19, 2020. In light of COVID -19 measures, the family has elected to announce special services for Clara Currie at a future date, celebrating her life and her Savior, Jesus Christ, who welcomed her home to a throng of rejoicing loved ones who had gone before.
