Services for Daniel Preston Young, age 85, of Minter will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at the Chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Dublin Memorial Gardens, Rev. Jerry Martin will officiate.
Mr. Young was a lifelong resident of Laurens County and was the son of the late Henry Young and the late Leitha Fulford Young. He was retired from J. P. Stevens and was a member of Minter Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. Mr. Young served in World War II, Battery B 218th Field Artillery Battalion under General Douglas MacArthur. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Army of Occupation Ribbon-Japan. In Japan he assisted with the reconstruction of Nagasaki. He was honorably discharged the rank of Corporal. Mr. Young was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Ely Young. Mr. Young died Monday, January 30, 2012.
Survivors include a daughter, Sara Young Lowery and husband Wayne of Orianna , niece, Alpha J. Watson of Dublin, Granddaughter, Megan J. Lowery, of Atlanta, brothers and sisters in law – John C. (Maggie) Young, Zilmon (Frances) Young, Fannie Mae (Gene) Stewart, Paul (Virginia) Young, Nell (Arnold) Maddox, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Carneage Young, Dan Young, Miles Whipple, Sam Williams, Jr., John V. Thigpen, and Fred Young will serve as pallbearers.
Flowers will be accepted, however, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Minter Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1810, Dublin, GA 31040.
Visitation will be held at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home Tuesday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
