Obituary

Darwin Henry Evans Sr., 90, of Dublin, Georgia went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 18, 2022, after an extended illness.

Darwin was born in Wheeler County, Georgia on January 11, 1932, to the late Chalmus G. and Jewel Brantley Evans. He was a graduate of Glenwood High School, Class of 1950, where he played basketball, and baseball, and was a member of FFA. He sang in the national FFA choir and won state in Boys' solo. He also attended the University of Georgia from 1950 to 1952. Darwin enjoyed football and was an avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs.

Darwin worked for and retired from Brown &Williamson after 30 years, but he was a cattle farmer at heart and enjoyed raising beef cattle, and was a member of the Laurens County Cattlemen's Association. He was also the owner/operator of Deluxe Cleaners and Superior Laundry in Dublin for ten years. On August 29, 1958, he married the love of his life, Emelyn Allmond Evans. Throughout their sixty-four years of marriage, they attended first, Jefferson Street Baptist Church, and then Rock Springs Baptist Church, where Darwin served for over three decades as a Deacon.

Darwin grew up in a Christian home and grew in his faith throughout his life. Just a few days before his passing he confirmed to his family that he trusted in Jesus as his Lord and Savior, that he knew Jesus loves him deeply, and that he was going to be with Jesus in Heaven. His family is comforted by this and are all looking forward to joining him there in the future.

Darwin is survived by his beloved wife, Emelyn Allmond Evans; his two sons: Darwin "Hank" Henry Evans Jr. (Joy) and Glenn Emmett Evans (Cheryl); one grandson: Coye Evans; four step-grandchildren: Austin Park (Kyla), Crystalyn Park, Alan Baggett, and Dusty Baggett; three great-granddaughters: Grace Park, Finley Park, and Allie Baggett; three great-grandsons: Isaac Park, Maddox Woods, and Carter Woods; two sisters: Eunice Beckum and Frances (Edwin) Sharpe; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chalmus G and Jewel Brantley Evans; his siblings, Eloise Evans Coleman (Grover), Lorelle C. Evans (Leona), baby brother Edison, and an infant sister; brothers-in-law Carlos Beckum and Emmett Allmond; and grandson Garrett William Park.
