Derek Scott Hughes, loving father and son, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2022, at the age of 53. Scott was born October 13, 1968, the son of Michael and Becky Hughes. He was a career truck driver, spending thirteen years at Sysco, as well as several years at Estes Express Lines and Smith Transport.

Scott had a passion for fishing, golf, overalls, Coca-Cola, and the Atlanta Braves. One of his proudest moments was watching his youngest daughter, Elizabeth, become the first member of their family to graduate from high school and then college. He was a simple but compassionate man who could often be found watching westerns, tossing the Frisbee, and spending time with his family. He was known for his quick wit, generous spirit, and genuine kindness.

Scott was preceded in death by his father, Michael. He is survived by his mother, sister, daughters Elizabeth and Amber, several cousins, nieces, and nephews, as well as his faithful dog, the "one-eyed monkey," Nemo.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 14 at 2:00 PM at Christ Chapel Dublin, located at 604 Academy Avenue. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Christ Chapel Dublin, PO Box 307, Dublin, GA 31040.
