Obituary

Funeral service for Don H. Johnson, age 75, of Dublin, will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 6, 2016, in the chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Rev. Bill Cain will officiate. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, at the funeral home. Mr. Johnson died Sunday, July 3, 2016.

Don grew up working on his family farm. After high school graduation from Emanuel County Institute, he married the love of his life, Margaret Anne Lewis in 1962. The newlywed couple lived in Savannah, where he worked as a ticket agent for Trailways Bus Lines. After a few years, they moved to Dublin so he could manage the local Greyhound – Trailways station. Through the years, he also managed stations in Macon, GA and Orangeburg, SC, but the majority of his career was spent in Dublin, from where he retired in 2013 with fifty-five years of service. In the late 1980's, he was recognized as one of the top 100 ticket agents in the nation.

Mr. Johnson was a member of First Baptist Church, Dublin.

Above all else, he was a dedicated and faithful husband, father, and grandfather. His sense of humor, work ethic, and wisdom will be deeply missed by his family.

Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, Preston and Mae Bell Oglesby Johnson, and brother, Richard Johnson.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Margaret Johnson, of Dublin; children, Gena Johnson (Ricky) Sapp, of Louisville, Jeff H. (Melinda) Johnson, of Dublin; sister, Brenda Sue Johnson (Mark) Price, of Swainsboro; grandchildren, Lauren Rachael Sapp, Richard Thomas Sapp, II, both of Louisville, Abby Michelle Johnson, Emily Anne Johnson, and Claire Brannon Johnson, all of Dublin; niece, Jennifer Price (Tripp) Fitzner, of Swainsboro; nephew, Mark (Tabatha) Price, of Warner Robins; and great nephews, Asher Song Fitzner, of Swainsboro, and Nathan Preston Price, of Warner Robins.

Timothy Tucker Page, Eddie Lewis, Tommy Gillis, Mark Price, III, Richard Sapp, II, and Edward Martin will serve as pallbearers.
