Services for Douglas Bennett, age 86, of Dublin, will be held at 2:30pm on Sunday, April 17, 2011 in the Chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home with Bro. Danny Duggar officiating. Burial will follow in Dublin Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Bennett was a deacon and member of Grace Baptist Church. He volunteered many years with the Salvation Army and was a member of the Gideon's International and American Legion Post 17. His career with the Veteran's Administration spanned from 1946 until 1981 working in Columbia, SC; Fayetteville, NC; Richmond, VA; Dayton, OH; Murfreesboro, TN and Dublin, GA. Doug was a loving and caring ambassador for his Lord. He was dedicated to serving and comforting those in need daily. Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his parents, Irving Bennett and Sallie Corbin Bennett. He passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2011.
Survivors include his wife of sixty six years, Susie J. Bennett of Dublin; daughter, Sally May (Glenn) of McDonough; two sons, Bruce Bennett (Leigh) of Roswell and Douglas Jr. (Gail) of Nashville, TN; one grandson, Rod May (Amy) of McDonough; four granddaughters, Suzanne Fullerton (Scott) of Canton, GA, Cathy Claxton of Nashville, TN, Kelli Hadfield (Jamie) of Atlanta and Amanda Barnes (Kyle) of Covington; four great-granddaughters, Samantha Fullerton, Carissa Fullerton and Grace Fullerton all of Canton and Lydia May of McDonough; three great-grandsons, Gage Barnes and Bryce Barnes both of Covington, Bennett Hadfield of Atlanta, and a host of nieces, nephews and in-laws.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 4:00pm until 7:00pm at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home and may be contacted at 503 Cardinal Drive in Dublin. Memorial donations may be made to The Gideon's International, P.O. Box 27, Dublin, GA 31040
