Services for Douglas Duren Payne, age 81, of Dublin, will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 27, 2015, in the chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Dublin Memorial Gardens. Rev. Robert Rogers and Rev. Rusty Stewart will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Payne died Saturday, October 24, 2015.
Mr. Payne was a member and deacon of Poplar Springs North Baptist Church. He retired from Oconee EMC after thirty-eight years of service. He loved music, singing, and being a member of The Travelers Quartet.
Mr. Payne was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Jewel Mae Watson Payne, and infant daughter, Susan Gwen Payne.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-eight years, Lora Hester Payne, of Dublin; children, Douglas (Sherrie) Payne, of Blythewood, SC, Lynn (Billy) Thomas, of Dudley; grandchildren, Brian (Jody) VanNess, of Rincon, Callie (Matthew) White, of Dublin, Emily Thomas, of Atlanta, Hillary Payne, Camille Payne, both of Blythewood, SC; great grandchildren, Gavin, Olivia, and Luke VanNess, and Asher White; sister, Wilma Willis, and brother, Gerald (Jackie) Payne, both of Dublin.
Clayton Willis, Conley Willis, Chad Payne, Jimmy Payne, Jeremy Payne, Tony Hester, Ken Hester, and Roy Freeman will serve as pallbearers.
