Obituary

Douglas William Weigel January 19th 1930- January 2nd 2012 resident of Dublin, GA passed away peacefully Monday morning (January 2nd 2012) in his Dublin, GA home. He was born in Fairview, Pennsylvania and graduated from Fairview High School in 1947. He furthered his education at Mansfield College where he received his bachelors degree in music and at the University of Wyoming where he received his masters degree in elementary education. He was the principal of Asbury Elementary, Manchester Elementary, and Chestnut Elementary. After his retirement from the Pennsylvania state education system he continued teaching for five more years at the Cathedral Center School of Erie, PA. Doug was a member of the Erie, PA mason lodge number 347 and the Zem Zem shrine where he was once the director of the Oriental and the Kiltie bands. He was a member of the Retired Educators Association. After moving to Dublin in 2006 Doug became a member of First United Methodist Church where he was active in the Progressive Sunday school class, the Chancel Choir, and the AAA group. He was also a master gardener, wood carver, avid world traveler, member of the Dublin-Laurens arts council and proud supporter of Trinity Christian School Athletics. He was born to the late Clyde and Marjorie Weigel. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter Victoria Renee Weigel and his loving wife Charmaine Loveland Weigel (Married June 29, 1956). He is survived by his brother Richard Weigel, his son Dr. Noel Douglas Weigel and wife Tammy H. Weigel, and his three grandchildren Lauren Elizabeth Weigel, Matthew Douglas Weigel, and Paige Virginia Weigel. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service on Thursday January 5th, 2012 at 2pm at First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Trinity Christian School of Dublin, GA.
