Edward Robert Pierce, age 90, of Dublin, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2023.
Ed was born January 7, 1933 in Canandaigua, NY to the late Donald Pierce and late Helen Leary Pierce. During the 1960s he served as a boy scout master for Troup 69 at Pine Forest United Methodist Church where he has been a member for many years. During the 1970s he was a baseball and football coach for the Dublin Recreation Youth Leagues. He was the Men's Singles Champion for the Southeastern Bowling Conference and holds the record for highest game at Laurens Lanes. He retired from Southern Bell / ATT in 1988 and has been working at Pitts Toyota for the past 26 years.
Ed served his community in many ways. He was the voice of the DHS Fighting Irish on WXLI radio in the 1970s. He was a past President of the Georgia BellSouth Telephone Pioneers and also served as a board member of the Georgia Sheriffs' Youth Homes. He was a past director of the American Senior Golf Association. In 2004, he received the Dublin St. Patrick's Festival Man of the Year award.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy Cook Pierce; siblings, Janet Doell, Nenie Pierce, Butch Pierce, Frank Pierce, Phil Pierce, and Harley Edmond; and granddaughter, Ashley Marie Watson.
Survivors include his children, Angela Pierce Watson (Steve), of Dublin, Steve Pierce (Laura), of Huntsville, AL and Sheila Pierce Pineyro (Dan), of Alpharetta, GA; grandchildren, Ben Pierce (Heather), Gary Pierce (Lucia), Megan Watson (Chad McCullars), and Michael Pineyro; great-granddaughter, Maddie Jean Pierce; sisters, Joanne Sweet and Nell Rosini; and brothers, Gary Pierce and Chuck Pierce.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Pine Forest United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30pm to 3pm. Pastor Kim Dixon, Pastor Donnie Baker, and Pastor Chase Brown will officiate.
