Obituary

Elizabeth "Betty" Garrett Page, a native and long term resident of Dublin, died on January 11, 2023 in Dublin.  She was ninety-seven years of age, having been born on September 10, 1925.  Betty was a graduate of Dublin High School.  In 1945, Betty went to work for radio station WMLT radio in the station's first year of operation.  Betty had the daunting and solemn task of reading notices of the deaths of local men during the war, many of whom she knew. Betty was one of the first on-air personalities on a smaller radio station in Georgia.

Betty was the daughter of Bluford Blount Page and Elizabeth Garrett Page.  Except for her time working in the insurance business in Augusta, Georgia and other places, including working with her mother in kindergarten, Betty lived in Dublin on Bellevue Avenue, along with her parents and grandparents.  She was the granddaughter of Dr. Joseph M. Page and Melissa Jackson Page and  A.W. "Cap" Garrett and Mamie Culver Page,  all of whom were well known and successful in business and social affairs.  Betty took great joy and pride in growing up in the Bellevue neighborhoods and especially and in the renovation of her grandparent's homes, The Page House by Kelly and Janice Canady and the Garrett House by Mack Walker and Dan King.

Betty returned to Dublin often to care for her father and mother.  She retired in the 1990s and worked part-time in the Heritage Center of the public library. She also took a position as a volunteer with the Laurens County Historical Society and soon because the secretary of the society. As the "museum lady," Betty entertained thousands of visitors over the years.  She retired in 2015, but continued to work part time in the Heritage Center before fully retiring soon thereafter.  Betty's keen interest in the history of Dublin provided visitors with a wealth of valuable information, mostly in her mind or in meticulous notes stored in the museum.

Betty was predeceased by her parents and grandparents, as well as her brothers Garrett Page and Bluford Blount Page, Jr.

She is survived by her sister, Mary Frances Page Clements and several nephews, nieces, grandnephews, and grandnieces. She is fondly remembered by her caregivers, especially Vickie Montgomery and Amy Charles.
