Services for Eloyce Giles Hooks, 86 will be Sunday, August 18, 2013. Visitation will be at Pine Forest United Methodist Church Social Hall at 2:00 PM. The funeral service will be held at Pine Forest United Methodist Church at 3:00 PM with burial to follow at Dublin Memorial Gardens. Rev. Steve Patton will officiate. Mrs. Hooks died peacefully Wednesday evening August 14, 2013 at Serenity Hospice with her family.
Mrs. Hooks has been a resident of Laurens County since the 1950's. She taught Kindergarten for many years. She was the President/CEO of Easter Seals for 22years. She was a Charter Member of Gideon Auxiliary, Charter Member of the Independent Methodist Church, Member of Pine Forest United Methodist church, Member of the Dublin-Laurens Chamber of Commerce, Military Affairs Committee. She received J. Ellis Moran Award, GA Rehab Association; St. Patrick's Festival Woman of the Year Award; DCMAO Award from the Defense Logistics Agency Performance Award for Contractor Excellence; Spirit of GA Award of GA Economic Developers Association; Outstanding Individual Award of GA Association of Rehab Facilities, Governor's Award for Achievement in workplace learning.
She was a devoted Christian who loved Jesus and tried to be a Godly example to all those she knew. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Carl B. Hooks; two sons Danny (Paula) Hooks, David (Teresa) Hooks, daughter Mary (Ed) Finch of Birmingham, AL; Grandchildren Dan (Julie) Hooks, JoBett Veal, Watson McCollister, Matthew McCollister, Brandon Dean, John chapel McCollister, Carla Hooks. She had 7 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings; Carolyn (Benny) Heath of Soperton, Betty Jean (Ned-deceased) Giles of Dublin, Mary Ann (George) Steele of Callahan, FL; sister in law Nina McCutchen of Augusta. She had many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father AC Giles, mother Mattie Mae Giles, brother Cortez (Jean) Giles, sisters in law, Margaret Thomas and Francis Kea.
Pallbearers will be Dan Hooks, Watson McCollister, Matthew McCollister, Brandon Dean, John Chappel McCollister, Mike Carroll. Honorary pallbearers are Ralph Donaldson, Wayne Peebles, Rufus Warren, Chris Council, Ann Fennell, Willie Paulk, June Moore, Helen Harper, Pattie Middlebrooks, Ken Caraswell, Geva Alexander and Jeff Johnson.
