Eunice Elizabeth Hester Shepard, 86, formerly of Dublin, GA passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2014 in Spartanburg, SC. Born August 7, 1928, she was the youngest of the nine children of the late James William and Lora Harrison Hester of Soperton, GA. Eunice was retired from the canteen at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center in Dublin. After her husband of nearly 50 years, Robert Allen Shepard died in 2011; she moved to Windsor House Assisted Living in Spartanburg, SC, where she continued to make friends, care for those who needed a special touch, water the flowers, and enjoy the birds. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by eight siblings; Dewey Hester, Marie H. Hammond, Thomas Hester, Grace H. Goss, Cordie Hester, Hillery Hester, Evelyn H. Edwards and Roberta H. Hurley. Eunice is survived by sons, Brooks Maddox (Donna) of Fayetteville, GA, Mike Maddox (Cindy) of Tucker, GA and a daughter, Becky Griffith (Jim) of Spartanburg, SC. She also leaves behind five grandchildren; Sarah Gray (Eric), Amanda Carl (Justin), Jared Maddox, Tyler Maddox and Ashleigh Benton (Nick); three great-grandchildren, a loving sister-in-law, Kathleen Taylor of Greenville, SC and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 from 10:00AM until 10:45AM at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 11:00AM in Northview Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Pine Forest United Methodist Church in Dublin, GA or Bethel United Methodist Church in Spartanburg, SC.
