Services for Evelyn Evans Atkins, 81, of Semmes, Alabama, formerly of Laurens County, will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, December 4, 2014 in the chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1:30 PM until the funeral hour Thursday. Ms. Atkins was born in Laurens County. She was a member of Springdale Baptist Church. She was a graduate of the Georgia School of Banking (Athens) and was a member of the South Georgia Chapter of the National Association of Banking Women, where she held several positions. Evelyn retired as Vice President and Corporate Secretary after 35 years of service at the Farmers and Merchants Bank. She loved square dancing and was an active member of the Irish Reelers, where she also served as treasurer for several years. Ms. Atkins was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbert Alligood and Minnie Jane Evans Alligood, sister, Vertaree Coleman and former husband Raymon W. Atkins. Survivors include her children, Sheryl A. Gillespie (Mark) of Semmes, AL, John W. Atkins (Sherri) of Douglasville, Boyd D. Atkins (Mitzi) of Cochran, grandchildren, Katherine (Bret) Gillespie Davis, Corey Gillespie, Sydney Atkins, Jared Atkins, Elise Burt, Darryl Atkins, Trevor Atkins, many nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved in laws.
