Fern Buchan Roberts was born on September 23, 1938, in Wray, Georgia. She worked as a Soda Hop at the Union Pharmacy where she and her husband met. Fern married Billy Roberts in January of 1955, at the age of 16. Fern and Billy have been married for 66 years. Throughout her life she worked as a Telephone Operator, Paraprofessional in Macon County, Co-Owner and Operator of the Red Barn Restaurant, and Co-Owner and Operator of Kwik Photo until her retirement. She has been a faithful member of the Dublin Church of God for 45 years. She lost her battle with Covid on August 28, 2021, at 12:24 PM.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Buchan of Douglas, Georgia, and Rosabell Buchan of Douglas, Georgia. Preceding her in death were her brothers, Cleon & Derward Buchan of Douglas, and her sister, Juanita Merritt of Wray, Georgia.
She is survived by her husband, Billy Roberts of Dublin, her son, Eddie Roberts (Stacy) of Brunswick, her daughter, Dianne Willis (Ricky) of Dublin, and her sister-in-law, Darlene Roberts of Douglas. Mrs. Fern also is survived by her five grandchildren: Kari McDaniel (Chad) of Dublin, Jon Willis (Andrea) of Jesup, Donovan Roberts of Brunswick, Mark Willis (Candice) of Sandersville, and Margo Roberts of Brunswick. Also, Mrs. Fern is survived by her six great-grandchildren: Mitchell McDaniel of Dublin, Brady Willis of Jesup, Emma Claire McDaniel of Dublin, Lane Willis of Jesup, Austin Willis of Sandersville and Colbie Jane of Sandersville, her loving dog, Mi-Ki, and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A graveside service will be held at Dublin Memorial Gardens at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 31, 2021. There will be a time of visitation starting at 10:30 AM before the memorial service at the cemetery. The family strongly suggests those in attendance please wear masks.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Dublin Church of God, P.O. Box 16580, Dublin, GA 31021, or to a charity of choice.
