Obituary

Frederick (Freddie) James Wood, age 62, of East Dublin, passed away on Monday, August 29, 2016.

Services will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Gethsemane United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Dublin Memorial Gardens. Rev. Tommy Veal and Rev. Judd Drake will officiate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5:00PM until 8:00PM at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Frankie Hammock, Bennie Helton, Joey Chafin, Don Tyson, Don Baggett, and Donnie Baker. Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of Dublin Winnelson Plumbing and the Gethsemane United Methodist Church Men Freddie was born in Laurens County to the late Mizel Jack and Rosa Lee Wood. He was a member of the Gethsemane United Methodist Church and president of the Gethsemane United Methodist Church Men's Club. He was a graduate of the 1972 Class of East Laurens High School, and member of the first East Laurens Falcon Football Team. On Friday nights he could always be found in the end zone at East Laurens Falcon Stadium supporting his alma mater.

Mr. Wood worked for 29 years as a meat cutter and market manager for Piggly Wiggly, Southern Family Market, Brunos, and Foodmax. He was also a driver and warehouse manager for 13 years with Dublin Winnelson Plumbing. Freddie was an avid bowler and golfer and enjoyed going on mission trips with Hooked on Jesus Ministries.

In addition to his parents, Freddie was preceded in death by his father-in-law, James G. "Jimmy" Davis and brother-in-law, Alan Purvis.

Survivors include his wife, Dawn C. Wood, of East Dublin; sons, Carson Dallas Wood (Jennifer), of Warthen and Cory Dustin Wood, of Largo, FL; grandsons, James Easton Wood and William "Will" Dunham Wood, both of Warthen and Preston White, of Rentz; sister, Martha Purvis, of East Dublin; brother, Clayton Wood (Vickie), of Dacula; mother-in-law, Nellie I. Davis, of East Dublin; brothers-in-law, Ricky Crabb, Sr. (Sharon), of Macon and Cliff Crabb and Jerry Davis, both of Dublin; sisters-in-law, Debbie Dawson, of Dublin, Kathy Butts (Rick), of Grier, SC and Lelia Holmes (Johnny), of Milledgeville and several nieces and nephews.
