Services for Freddy P. Churchwell, Sr., age 91, of Dublin, will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 5, 2010, in the chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Dominy Family Cemetery. Rev. Benny Tanton and Rev. Steve Hardeman will officiate. Mr. Churchwell died Saturday. Mr. Churchwell was born in Statesboro and was the son of the late Paul Charles Churchwell and the late Mattie Mathis Churchwell. He was a veteran of WWII serving in France and Germany as a machine gunner. He worked as a mechanic and farmed for a number of years. Mr. Churchwell retired after nineteen years with the Georgia Power Company. He drove semi-tractor trucks for forty-five years, retiring from that occupation at age eighty-six. He was a member of the Dublin Church of God. Mr. Churchwell was predeceased by wife, Lillian E. Churchwell, wife, Helen Rogers Churchwell, son, Charles E. Churchwell, and sister, Elizabeth Gillis. He is survived by his wife Mary B. Churchwell of Dublin; son, Freddie P. and wife, Linda C., Churchwell, Jr., of Dublin, son, Joe and wife, Runell, Churchwell, of Dublin; daughter in-law, Linda Churchwell of Dublin; grandchildren, Paul Churchwell and Jessica Landrum, both of Dublin; brother, Amos Churchwell, of Warner Robins; sister, Mary Gillis, of Dublin; five great grandchildren; several nephews and nieces; three step children; eight step grandchildren; and several step great grandchildren. Paul Churchwell, Farrell Landrum, Ray Gillis, Johnny Howell, Gary Howell, Dwight Lumley, Derek Lumley, and Todd Lumley will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM until 8:00PM Monday at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home
