G. Herbert Johnson, 87, devoted father, PaPa, and friend, went to his heavenly home on June 25, 2011. He was born December 16, 1923, in Johnson County, GA, son of Hanion Thomas and Pearl Smith Johnson. He is once again with his wife Ethel Crooms Johnson whom he loved and cared for. He is also preceded in death by brothers W. P. and Thomas Johnson and sisters Grace Lindsey and Orieta DePratter.
Herbert lived the last three years of his life in Jacksonville, FL, after moving from Dublin, GA, where he worked for J.P. Stevens for 37 years and was a faithful member of Jefferson St. Baptist Church. He also served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1945.
Herbert is survived by daughters Judith (James) Williams of Jacksonville, FL, and
Gerry Clampitt (Wayne) of Dripping Springs, TX, grandsons Allen Williams and Shawn Clampitt, granddaughter Jennifer (James) Ricci, and three adoring great grandchildren, Judah, Avery, and Tanner Ricci.
Family will receive friends at Townsend Funeral Home, 215 West Jackson St., Dublin, on Tuesday, June 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial services at Dublin Memorial Gardens, 2986 W. Highway 80, Dublin, will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29, followed by services at Jefferson Street Baptist Church, 209 N. Jefferson St., Dublin, at 2:30 p.m.
