Gene Jones, age 80, entered into eternal rest at her home in Dublin, Georgia, Saturday, August 7, 2021, surrounded by family. She was born January 21, 1941, Gloria Imogene Lewis, in Brewton Georgia. She is pre-deceased by her parents Swain and Mattie Pearl Lewis, brother, Jack Lewis (Mary Frances), and sister Hazel Thigpen (Marion also deceased). She is survived by her best friend and loving husband of 61 years, Donald Jones. She is also survived by her sons Craig Jones (Teresa) from Warner Robins, Ga, and David Jones (Karen) from Cleveland Tn. She was most especially proud of her 4 grandchildren, Brandon Jones (Rachel) of Perry, Ga, Taylor Jones also of Warner Robins, Emily Puckett (Chris) of Hendersonville, Tn and Michael Jones also of Cleveland, Tn. Her most recent joy has been her great-grandchildren, Hudson Jones also of Perry,Ga and Renna Puckett also of Hendersonville, Tn. She is also survived by 4 nieces and nephews, Sandra Smith (Ronnie) of East Dublin, Sofie Thigpen of Nashville, Tn, Debra Burke (Ronald) of Vidalia, and Chad Lewis (Donna) of East Dublin.
Gene graduated from East Laurens High School and has been a lifelong Laurens County resident. In her younger life, Gene worked at the Courier Herald and was a bookkeeper/treasurer for her church, Liberty Baptist in Dublin. She later turned her hobbies into a home-based business catering weddings and events specializing in her famous cakes for all occasions. She was an active worker and deacon's wife in church at Marie Baptist and later at Liberty Baptist. She loved sewing, reading, making Christmas crafts, doing outreach and cards of encouragement for the sick and elderly in the church and community. She had such a caring heart for others.
A public viewing is scheduled for 3-5 p.m. Monday, August 9, 2021, at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Graveside services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Dublin Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family request contributions to Serenity Hospice, Dublin which provided such great care of the family during the last few weeks of her life.
