Gerald J. Weaver was born July 18, 1933 in Treutlen County. He was a graduate of Dudley High School. He discovered his talent for wood working in his teenage years when he began work at Cordell Lumber Company. In 1951, Gerald proudly joined the U.S. Navy where he served aboard the USS Cone until August of 1955. Mr. Weaver was an engineering supervisor at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center until his retirement in 1994 after 30 years of dedicated service. Gerald, fondly known as "Snig" by many, spent much of his life as a custom cabinet maker and craftsman. Mr. Weaver was a long time member of Jefferson Street Baptist Church. He served as a deacon and member of the building committee at Jefferson Street before joining Grace Baptist Church, where he also served as a deacon. Gerald passed away Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Fairview Park Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim Henry Weaver, Naomi Peacock Weaver, and Nina Mae Brantley Weaver. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James (Corris) Abner Weaver, Clyde Weaver, and sisters, Mary Weaver Savage, Mattie Brantley Weaver and Elsie Brantley Barfoot. Mr. Weaver would say that his greatest joy in life was his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sue Ellington Weaver; three daughters, Lee (Steve) Garner, Dree (Danny) Davis, and Jere (Kevin) Baggett, all of Dublin; grandchildren, Evan (Logan) Garner, of Birmingham, Alabama, Dorrie Garner and Carson Baggett, of Dublin, and great-granddaughter, Amelia Jane Garner. He is also survived by grandchildren Meg Baggett, Ashley (Brandon) Hogan, Amber Davis, Autumn Davis; great grandchildren, Addie James, Riley and Jax Hogan; sisters, Jimmie Sue Weaver Savage, of Byron and Betty Weaver Bowen, of Centerville; sisters in law, Lois Ellington Crowder and Grace Ellington McEachern, of Dublin, Joyce Ellington Jones, of Macon, Eloise Ellington Hester, of Hephzibah; aunt, Alene Peacock McGowan, of Warner Robins; special family friend, Betty Watkins, of Dublin and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Services for Mr. Weaver will be held at 4:00PM on Sunday, June 4, 2017 in the Chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Dublin Memorial Gardens. Dr. J.W. Wallis and Rev. Danny Duggar will officiate. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:30PM until funeral hour at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be nephews; Fred Weaver, Frank Weaver, Jimmy Savage, Bill Savage, Stevie Bowen, and Jeff Wells. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Davis, Ray Brown, Frank Cook, Ed Dominy, and Franz Bruckmair. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be made to Grace Baptist Church, P.O. Box 16299, Dublin, GA 31040.
