Henry Lawrence Smith, age 81, of Dublin, passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2015.
Services will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Dublin. Burial will follow in Dublin Memorial Gardens. Dr. Cliff Morris will officiate. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 10, 2015 from 5:00PM until 7:00PM at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Austin Jones, Justin Jones, Brian Smith, Brett Smith, Dylan Smith, Joe Coley, Josh Smith and Dusty Dykes. Honorary pallbearers will be the Georgia State Patrol and any local law enforcement.
Mr. Smith was born in Meansville, GA on August 8, 1934 to the late E.B. and Cora Lee Hurd Smith. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and retired from the Georgia National Guard. He was also a retired Georgia State Trooper and was owner and founder of Smith Plumbing. After retirement, he worked as a probation officer with JAG. He was very active in the community serving as a CASA Advocate and as a Board Member for Promise of Hope and the Laurens County DFACS. Mr. Smith was a member of the Dublin-Laurens Chamber of Commerce, Dublin Exchange Club, Dublin High School Touchdown Club and the West Laurens Booster Club.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his brothers, Bernard Smith, Earnest Smith and William L. Smith.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Barbara Smith of Dublin; children, David (Tammy) Smith of Dublin, Michael (Rebecca) Smith of Dublin, Danny (Beverly Smith) of Fort Valley and Kathy Jones of Dudley; step-children, Todd (Pam) Woodard of Dexter and Michelle (Hugh) Kight of Dexter; brother, Morris G. Smith of Riverdale; sisters, Hazel Elliott of Thomaston, GA and Louise Smith of Zebulon, GA; brother-in-law, Wendell (Donna) Hunt of Lakeland, FL; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
