James Hugh Alligood, 72, of Dexter, GA, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010, with his loving and dedicated family by his side. Mr. Alligood was born on Sept. 11, 1938 in Cedar Grove and lived all of his life in Laurens Co. Being a salesman by trade, he worked with Laurens Equipment Co., L.J.L., B&H Transfer and Farmers Furniture. He served as a member of the Laurens County Board of Education for 14 years and as a Laurens County Commissioner for 4 years. He was a long-time member of Bethsaida Baptist Church where he was a deacon and a member of the choir. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janice Baggett Alligood, his parents, Walter and Beatrice Alligood, his sister, Geraldean McDaniel, and his brother, Gene Alligood. His memory will forever be treasured by his wife, Marjorie Bazemore Alligood, four children, David (Tena) Alligood of Social Circle, Benita (Jim) Paulsen of Junction City, KS, Cathy (Thomas) Craft of Dublin, Sherry (Billy) Arrington of Dexter, and two stepsons, Russell (Jodi) Bazemore of Dexter, Philip (Sabra) Bazemore of Dublin. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Hance, Shannon and McKenzie Alligood; Melissa and Tiffany Colson; Reid, Jamie, Tyler and Jacob Craft; Sara and Anna Grace Arrington; two step grandchildren, Rhett Bazemore and Josh Bazemore; and one great-grandson, Aiden Parker. Visitation will be Tues, Sept. 14 from 6-8 pm at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 am, Sept. 15 at Bethsaida Baptist Church, with Rev. Jerry Collins and Rev. Archie Herrin officiating. Interment will follow at Dublin Memorial Gardens. The family can be contacted at the family residence, 1055 Bazemore Dr., Dexter, GA. Pallbearers will be Tim Allen, Travis Craft, John Farwell, Scott Knight, Jonathan Kowtko, Frankie Mathis, Gerad Mathis and John Pugh. Honorary pallbearers will be the Laurens Co. Administrator & Commissioners, Challenger's Sunday School Class and the Deacons of Bethsaida Baptist Church.In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the Bethsaida Baptist Church cemetery fund at 2519 W Hwy 80, Dublin, GA.
