Services for Rev. James Monroe Carter, age 87, will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, July 12, 2012, in the Chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Rogers and Rev. Paul Wilkes will officiate. Burial will follow in the Poplar Springs United Methodist Cemetery, Adrian, GA. The family will receive friends at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home, Thursday from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM.
Rev. Carter was born in Johnson County. He was the son of the late James Jessie Carter and the late Mary Lizzie Flanders Carter. He was a US Army Veteran, and was retired from Carl Vinson VA Medical Center. Rev. Carter was also a retired Baptist Minister, having served as Pastor to several Baptist Churches in Laurens and surrounding counties. He was currently a member of Springdale Baptist Church. He passed away, Monday, July 9, 2012.
Survivors include his wife, Dona Rowland Carter of Dublin, daughters, Sharon Kitchens of Wadley, Teresa (Ricky) Fountain of Jasper, GA, stepson, Ronald Carter of Dublin, 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, brothers, Bobby (Betty) Carter and Jesse Carter of East Dublin.
Pallbearers will be, Norman Jarrard, Steve Shepard, Larry Thigpen, Larry Woodard, Rev. Nolon McDaniel and Jeffrey Pullen.
Alan Wynn, Jack Sanders, Harvey Wynne, Cecil Woodard, Ray Perry, Junior Scarborough, Billy Scarborough, Mike Rowland, Clinton Ellison, Billy Wicker, Hall Outlaw, Dr. J. Roy Rowland, Rev. Kelly Maddox, Bruce Lake, the men of the church and Deacons of Pleasant Springs Baptist Church and Springdale Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
